Wagerunit should be blacklisted

Short version of the story, with email history to follow:

I deposited $500 and took a 100% offer from Wagerunit, which uses a Free Money system where the bonus is slowly converted into real money as you play. I converted all of the Free Money and initiated a withdrawal for $850.

A day or two later, though the withdrawal was showing as "processed", the $850 was back in my account. I contacted Live Chat, who told me that the withdrawal had been denied because I didn't meet the WR. Upon checking my math, I agreed that I didn't meet the WR and would wager the rest.

Luck was with me, and I finished the WR with $1350. I put this withdrawal in ... a few days later, I check on it and Live Chat tells me the $850 has been sent. I disagree, based on what they told me, and they forward it to upper management. Hence the emails, with my most recent one on top:

Being a senior moderator on an online gambling forum that numbers over 17,000 members, and since you've said this is your final decision, I'm unfortunately forced to relay this incident to these members. Being that the forum advocates that players always follow the terms and conditions of a casino or sportsbook, I'm sure the members will want to know of a casino/sportsbook that does not follow the same standards of good business.

Given this matter, and an ongoing problem with redeeming Club Cash points in your business, I'm forced to say that you have lost a customer in this instance -- and probably future customers -- unless you reconsider.

That is incorrect information that you have listed below.

I initiated the withdrawal for $850 on October 21st as indicated. Though the withdrawal was shown as processed in the cashier, $850 was put back into my account. When I questioned why this had occurred during a Live Chat, I was told that I had not completed the proper rollover associated with the bonus I received. To be exact, I had completed $12,500 worth of wagering, but was told I needed to complete $20,000 worth of wagering which would be the correct 20x rollover of the deposit and bonus as advertised.

Since I wanted to comply with your terms and conditions as a good customer, I completed that additional $7500 worth of wagering to complete the rollover. This was not a case of me "not report the false credit and kept playing in Casino" as you've claimed. This is following what your Live Chat representative informed me I needed to do. It is through no fault of my own that I proceeded to win more money in the Casino until I met the 20x rollover that you required of me with funds now amounting to $1350.

I respectfully ask that you issue yet another check in the amount of $500 in order for my complete withdrawal of $1350 to be honored. I have faithfully followed all of your terms and conditions, risking the $850 returned in me in order to do so. I believe you will agree I have only acted in good faith and I would expect a business of your magnitude to do the same.

I await your response and both checks to arrive at my residence.

Hi all

I too have fallen victim to the roulette systems that fail.. luckily i never lost any money (used bonus money) but my hopes and dreams were shattered

Anyways decided to explore blackjack and found this site.

After a few hours of research i have come to a conclusion and would apreciate it if you would comment or make a sugestion.

Heres my plan.. I live in South Africa (ZAR) so i think i have an advantage there. My Currency is weak so 100 pounds would be 1200 ZAR which is quite allot of "chips".

Indio Casino are offering a max 200% bonus up to 3000.. so i spend 1000 and get 3000...

now from what i understand the main objective is to meet the wagering requirments inorder to withdraw the bonus. so in this case i would have to wager 45000...

as you can imagine 1$ flat bets would take forever but i think i have a solution.

We all know martingale sucks balls. but in this case i think it will work magic!

If i limit the system to step 7 (64 chips) the max i will loose is 127 chips.

3000 - 127 = 2873..

now i havnt put this to the test. but in theory step 7 dosnt happen verry often at all and even if i loose, its still contributing to WR..

In order to loose (reach 1000 bankroll without reaching WR) i have to reach step 7 15 times.

But because im using martingale every bet is a win so after say 15-20 minutes i will make the 127 for the inevitable loss and so on.. by the end of it. i should be well above 3000... or atleast make a profit..

What do you guys think?

Nevada prepared for online gambling

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Nevada, where declining gaming and sales tax collections have ravaged the biennial budget, could benefit financially if a bill to legalize Internet gambling in the United States is approved by Congress.

The potential, however, rests on a big IF.

A House of Representatives resolution was introduced in May that would establish a framework to permit licensed online gambling operators to accept wagers from inside the United States.

Legal experts said Nevada has the statutory structure in place to investigate and license online gaming companies. Also, Nevada could become the premier American jurisdiction for hosting Internet casinos.

If the sites were to operate from Nevada, gaming regulators said the online businesses would have to pay upfront fees. Also, the online casinos would be taxed at the same rate as Strip casinos, now 6.75 percent on gaming revenues.

Again, a big IF because the keys to the whole deal rest with the 111th Congress some 2,500 miles to the east in Washington, D.C.

Federal lawmakers have focused attention on health care reform, the nation's economic crisis and other matters, setting aside issues such as Internet gambling.

"(Debate on the bill) probably won't happen this year," said former Sen. Richard Bryan, an attorney with Lionel Sawyer & Collins, who spent 12 years representing Nevada in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat.

"My sense, however, is that there is a gathering, gradual momentum where, eventually, Internet gaming will occur and be regulated," Bryan said. "I'm just not sure if it has reached critical mass yet."

Lack of action hasn't stopped interest in the subject.

Bryan and fellow Lionel Sawyer & Collins attorney Greg Gemignani said the firm has been approached by potential clients who want to set up Internet gambling businesses in Nevada should the activity be legalized.

Nevada lawmakers enacted the process to license Internet gaming in 2001 but the state's effort went dormant a year later when there wasn't any action on the federal level.

If Internet gaming is legalized under the current bill in Congress, Nevada could be chosen by the Department of Treasury to determine whether an applicant is suitable for federal gaming licensing.

BENEFITS TO NEVADA

Observers believe Nevada, which legalized casinos in 1931, stands to benefit because the state has investigated and licensed gaming companies and regulated the industry longer than any other jurisdiction.

"The suitability requirements under the current bill look like a subset of what Nevada already requires," Gemignani said. "Given Nevada's current laws permitting interactive gaming licensing, Nevada is well-placed to be at the forefront of regulating online gaming and providing assistance to the federal government in determining the suitability of applicants."

Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander said the state's current regulatory structure could be enhanced with regulations covering online gambling. Under the state's 2001 law, the Nevada Gaming Commission could set policy that mirrors federal regulations.

Nevada online casinos would have to use technology that offers reasonable assurance that wagers would not be accepted from states where Internet gambling is prohibited and that minors could not access the sites.

"We have the enabling legislation in place that would allow us to go forward with the concepts that I've heard are being discussed," Neilander said. "The federal government would set a baseline standard of minimum requirements. It would be up to individual states to opt in."

Under the state's law, Nevada could earn upfront fees, which could be larger than normal licensing fees.

"We would contemplate going forward with a gaming tax that would be the same as a bricks-and-mortar casino," Neilander said.

Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., is the main sponsor of House Resolution 2267, the Internet Gambling, Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act. Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., whose district includes the Strip, was one of the bill's co-sponsors.

The legislation provides safeguards against compulsive and underage gambling, money laundering, fraud and identity theft.

It's not the first time Internet gaming has come through Congress.

President George W. Bush signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006, which made it a crime for banks and other financial institutions to process transactions used in online gaming.

Bryan, who was Nevada's attorney general when Atlantic City legalized casinos, was the state's governor when gaming began to expand nationally into riverboat casino markets.

Nevada's casino industry initially opposed the growth. Eventually, the Nevada gaming companies moved into new markets and fueled much of the expansion in the 1990s. In 2007, commercial casinos reported gross gaming revenues of $32.54 billion.

WAGERING ON WEB SITES

The American Gaming Association, the casino industry's Washington D.C.-based lobbying arm, estimated that Americans wagered $5.9 billion on gambling Web sites outside the United States. Those same sites took in another $21 billion from gamblers worldwide.

"I haven't taken the industry's temperature in terms of Internet gaming, but, because of the potential revenues involved, I do believe there is some momentum moving in favor of the activity," Bryan said.

Gemignani said gaming companies licensed in Nevada that are interested in jumping into the online casino business would have an advantage over outside companies seeking to break into the market.

"There are a substantial number of Nevada licensees with experience in the technologies, systems and management of systems that can be used for online gaming," Gemignani said.

The casino industry is split on Internet gaming. As such, the American Gaming Association has taken a neutral stance on the issue "due to the divergent views of its members," according to a policy statement.

"We don't have a public position on the bill, but we are interested observers and will continue to monitor the situation as things progress," Las Vegas Sands Corp. spokesman Ron Reese said.

MGM Mirage took a short-lived stab at running an Internet gambling site in September 2001, but abandoned the idea after 21 months. The casino, which was licensed by the Isle of Man, did not accept wagers from U.S. citizens.

MGM Mirage spokesman Alan Feldman said the company's position on Internet gaming has not changed.

"We have always felt it should be legalized, regulated and taxed," Feldman said. "There is no need to create a whole new infrastructure with government oversight because it already exists in the states."

Harrah's Entertainment is the most vocal proponent of legalizing Internet wagering. Earlier this year, the company hired a former online gaming executive to expand its World Series of Poker brand internationally and online.

Harrah's Chairman Gary Loveman has said on many occasions that Internet gaming, especially poker, should be legalized.

Slot machine giant International Game Technology owns two subsidiaries based in Europe that provide content to online casinos.

Bryan said Washington, D.C., moves at a "glacial pace." However, he said there may be an underlying effort to pass Frank's bill because states could realize much-needed tax revenues from Internet gaming.

"I believe there is probably more support for it today than there was a decade ago," Bryan said.

The frustration on the face of Tiger Woods during his shocking defeat in the PGA Championship Sunday afternoon was nothing compared to the exasperation oozing out of Paddy Power.

In fact, Mr. Paddy Power, the director of communications for the Irish bookmaking operation that bears his name, was so disturbed by what was happening at Hazeltine National Golf Club during the final round that he watched the action from his toilet.

"I had to," Mr. Power giggled as he spoke to Casino City on Thursday. "I was as sick as a parrot."

And with good reason. Woods' epic loss to South Korean unknown and eventual winner Y.E. Yang cost the Irish bookie 1.25 million after Mr. Power made the bold but in retrospect costly decision on Friday evening to pay off all of his clients that wagered on Tiger to win the event after he took what appeared to be a commanding four-stroke lead with two rounds to go.

Instead of closing out the victory something he had done in a major championship the previous 14 times he held the 36-hole lead Woods, who was a 1-to-5 favorite to win heading into Sunday's final round, coughed up the lead and watched Yang stun the golf world.

"Hey, 1-for-15 isn't too bad," Mr. Power said with another laugh. "Unfortunately for us, the one time he doesn't close the deal, we end up with an ostrich-size egg all over our face."

It wasn't the first time that Paddy Power has paid off its clients before an event came to an official end and Mr. Power vowed it wouldn't be the last. From time to time, Paddy Power likes to take a chance and pay off bets prematurely. It did so with Barack Obama backers before the primary and general elections both of which were won by Obama, of course.

"It's something we like to do from time to time to prove to our punters that we're willing to take a chance too," he explained. "Our bettors take a chance every day when they place a bet. We like to show that we're not afraid to gamble either. And we're usually right more often than we're wrong."

But the 34-year-old did admit that this time the gamble cost the company more than ever before, "by a mile." And it could have been a lot worse. Because of where it is stationed, Paddy Power typically receives a large number of bets on Irish golfer Padraig Harrington in major events. Harrington began Sunday two strokes off the lead and if he had prevailed, the total loss for Paddy Power would have been closer to 5 million.

"That was the only saving grace," Power said. "But this still ranks as one of the more idiotic things we've ever done. It takes a special kind of dimwit to turn what should have been a great day for us into one of the worst."

Asked if he would make the same decision if given the chance with Woods in the future, Power wouldn't rule it out.

"Chances are that if Tiger is in that position again, he's going to win," Power said. "Would we be stupid enough to do it again? Probably. Watch this space. It could happen."

A new bill signed into law this month by Gov. Linda Lingle has some frequent Las Vegas visitors and local CPAs scratching their heads.

Under House Bill 1495, no longer will gamblers be able to offset their winnings with their losses for Hawai'i state income tax purposes. Previously gamblers would be taxed only on their net winnings, but now they will be taxed on gross winnings.

A Hawai'i resident who wins $10,000 in a year, for example, and loses $9,000 in the same year used to be taxed only on the $1,000 in net winnings. Under the new law, that resident would be taxed on the full $10,000 in winnings.

Even if you end up a net loser, you will still be taxed on whatever you won along the way.

Dennis Kohara, a certified public accountant in Honolulu, called the law "ridiculous."

"You sit down at the blackjack table. You win a hand. You lose the next one. You win another hand. You lose the next one," he said.

And, under the new law, you now owe taxes on all the winning hands, which are not offset by any of the losing hands, Kohara said.

State Rep. Pono Chong, who sponsored the legislation, acknowledged that Kohara is correct.

However, Chong said, the new law will mainly affect those who have substantial winnings, along with substantial losses.

The law is expected to add about $300,000 a year to Hawai'i tax revenue.

Chong, D-49th (Mauna- wili, Olomana, Enchanted Lake), introduced the measure as a way to bring in additional revenue at a time when the state is "undergoing a significant and possibly protracted economic downturn in tandem with the national and global economic and financial crises."

He said no one wanted to increase taxes, but something had to be done to address the state's budget deficit. Chong said his bill was one of numerous measures taken to address the shortfall.

He also noted that Hawai'i is one of only two states where gambling is not permitted. The previous statute that allowed offsetting wagering income with wagering losses "in effect subsidizes the other 48 states that do allow gambling."

Some in Vegas have not taken the news lightly. Even before the new bill had been signed into law, April Gardner, staff editor for CasinoGamblingWeb.com, criticized Chong as hypocritical for questioning whether it's good policy to allow Hawai'i taxpayers to make deductions for an activity that's not even allowed in their state.

"Of course," wrote Gardner, "the state has no problem taking the taxes on money that is won in other jurisdictions."

Frequent Vegas traveler Robyn Oshita-Vranesevic falls into the category of the average gambler win a little here, lose overall.

She used to have plenty of losses to offset her winnings.

"When we did go to Vegas I lost my behind," she said.

She said she understands the government's need to make up for lost income but suggested they do it elsewhere.

"I can see why the government wants to do it," she said. "Because there's probably a lot of untapped money out there. But you know what? Make marijuana legal and tax that instead."

The Department of Taxation, which supported the bill, has said it's unclear how much the law will actually bring in to the state. However, if it is assumed the gambling losses remain at the $5 million level currently claimed, the revenue gain could be $300,000 a year, the department said in testimony in support of the measure.

The new law is retroactive to January of this year.
